Albany Law School (Albany, NY)

Youth Law Day (YLD) (private)

Time: 9:00 am–2:30 pm
Location: Albany Law School Campus

The YLD program is cosponsored by the NYS Bar Association’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and administered by its YLD Subcommittee. The goal of the program is to provide high school students with a sense of the law school experience and to reduce the mystery or sense of unattainability that might be associated with it. Typically, the centerpiece is an interactive classroom experience led by law school faculty and staff. We expect over 80 high school students from the Albany area to attend. They will spend the day with us exploring the possibility of a legal profession. The program agenda includes

  • 9:30 am–10:00 am: Registration and breakfast (Gym)
  • 10:00 am–10:15 am: Welcome remarks by Honorable Helena Heath and the president and dean of Albany Law School
  • 10:20 am–10:50 am: Mock law class, taught by a law professor

Hofstra University—Maurice A. Deane School of Law (Hempstead, NY)

Youth Law Day (private)

Date: Friday, March 3, 2017
Time: 8:30 am–2:00 pm
Location: Hofstra University—Maurice A. Deane School of Law

We invite high school students from the Hempstead, Westbury, Uniondale, and Roosevelt school districts to come and learn about law as a career through an interactive experience with law professors, law students, and legal practitioners. Each year we have law professors teach mock classes, and a keynote speaker addresses the students. Current law students also participate, so the high school students get to see current students of color pursuing a legal career.
